Everyday people are dying whether it's in our immediate vicinity or on the opposite side of the globe. Many people are dying in the war in Iraq, even innocent people that play no role in the war. People in the area begin to fear being hit by a bomb while walking home. Even people outside of their country begin to worry about all the innocent that are dying, thinking what if that were my child or family member? The people in Rochester don't really have to worry about bombs but the increasing number of individuals that have been shot and killed, young and old, has caused many people to enter the grieving stage. No matter where death occurs it affects the way we live. Death installs fear in every being and as a result we begin to live in caution. It causes us to avoid certain places when searching for homes, limit the freedom of our children and to carry ourselves in a certain manner in order to avoid conflict that may result in someones death. Whether it is effective or not. Can death really influence the way we live? If so, how does death affect you as an individual, both directly and indirectly?

Absolutelty death is something that human beings are bound to. I mean, that is what makes us human! We are born and we die, that is the only thing you can guarentee 100% is that we will all die one day. This is why I beleive religions have so many followers. Human beings fear losing their lives at any moment.

Of Course death, how it comes about and what happens afterward controls the life of all individuals.Death affects me personally as an inevitable mystery, a game that everyone has to play.
Death surely influences the way i live whether it be by my choice or not. Considering that i am still a minor, my mother does still have control over me and many a time she refuses to let mo go certain places or is leery to let me go because someone got killed there or its labled dangerous. To a certain extent i don't really live in fear with the exception of certain times. For instance, i will not walk outside alone in the dark. This fear is the result of watching too many episodes of Law & Order and even though i know the show is fictional i know that some of stuff they act out in the shows can really happen to people.
No but seriously, alot of people live on the edge because they know that they will just end up dying. they will be all like not caring and stuff. Do what ever they want and not regret it. they will of course face the consequences but repeat the whole cycle over again because it wont matter when they're dead.
Death most definitely affects our lives. When someone dies you are going to have sorrow for them and their family. If a lot of people have died from gang related violence or war related then you would start fearing for you and your family and will think that it can happen to you if you are in that area a lot or live there. People have got killed in my neighborhood for dumb reasons by different gangs. The families are upset that someone has gotten killed just for being in the wrong spot at the wrong time and it was during something gang related. Some people just go into complete panic when it’s a loved one because they start to think that it can happen to them and the ones that may have been there just get all upset and say why wasn’t them instead of the person who got killed.
I never went into a complete grieving moment when someone in my family died because I wasn’t that close to them to be really affected as that person mother or whoever was real close to them. But after something tragic happens around me I refuse to be alone at certain times in the day and don’t like to stay home alone at night for a long time because I fear someone could just kill me at any point in time they feel.
According to kidshealth.org some people find it hard to sleep, eat, study, or even concentrating after a death has occurred and they knew who it was to get deeply affected. Or the complete opposite may happen, they may eat or drink too much just to cope with loved ones death.

Death is the one thing that everyone dreads but they know its comming and they cant avoid.I think the trippy part is no one knows for sure when their time is. Thats the scary part, and even if you know, it's still scary. Some human beings think ahead so they wont have to chance, they have a "well everybody will die one day" attitute...which may not cause much change (or change at all) after experiencing death of someone close to them. But dont get me wrong anything is possible...it can come a time when the person with the not influenced personality to sit dont and think of things like "why is everyone dieng like this?" Why this state?..why are they killing each other and why are we?

"A Friend Who Died Pathetically"
I had a friend whom I came to know when he was 12 years old named Deepak (meaning 'lamp' in Hindi). I could not listen to the account of his slow, pathetic death -- I wonder how his parents could take it everyday.
Well, death of a dear friend leaves a lasting impact on one's life. News of Deepak's death truly left me darkness, true to his name - the lamp was gone. There's another Friend who also died, a more pathetic death, whose life, words and death have left a great influence on my life. He is my Best Friend
Death absolutely effects the community. Personally I can say that death/violence has been a part of my life seeing that my cousin was killed due to scenseless violence.
As a matter of fact I was watching BET today and their whole show was aboutdeath due to violence and youth. They say that homicide is the leading cause of death among Blacks and the second among Latinos and the third is suicide for most races. I think that these numbers are significant because it shows that death due to violece does not only directly effects teens, but it starts with them and possibly in their homes.
There were also segments where many anti-violence activists discussed this and talked to families of those who had been killed by violence. This is showing to have a major impact on the community especially since the youth are the leaders of tomorrow.
It is definately a true statement to say that death effects everyone and many ppl choose to deal with it in many shapes and forms. Personally I prefer to talk about it, but others many choose to drink, do drugs or find other ways to deal with the way death effects them.
Although with teens I think healthy relationships is the key to helping stop some deaths due to teen violence because many teens who kill do so out of anger.
As for the war is it pretty obvious that death in a war zone is inevitable, but we can only hope that the lives lost during this war are worth loosing in order to gain respect and protection for our nation.
I believe that death can and does affect the way we live. i can say that i have moved numerous times and in many different areas but it is clear certain areas my mother completely rules out because of crime that occurs in that area regardless of he quality of that home.i can also say every time i hear about a young person dying i become more cautious and aware of the way things around me are. i constantly wonder like what if that was me? when death effects you directly you grieve, you may blame yourself you become an 'emotional wreck." But indirectly you just really thank god it wasn't you and your friends and family but you can't help but be afraid and feel sorry for the victim and their family.
Death has never happened close enough around me to have a lasting effect. As in the story in Antwan' post, i've never had a friend die or close family member at least not when i was old enough to understand death. When i was about 4, my favorite Uncle died and it took me a few years to understand. I couldn't quite grasp the fact that i had just seen him less than a day ago and then he was dead. I even went as far to have a temper tantrum at the funeral screaming, "I want my uncle, etc." I was young and the concept of death was really unfamiliar to me. When i did understand his death and death itself it never changed my view of Brooklyn, NY or even my safety.
Death affects the things my mom does and does not allow me to do. My mom won't let me ride the bus because she's heard its dangerous and people get hurt and stuff being downtown. She also won't let me hang out in dangerous areas of the city because of previous deaths and violence she's seen on the news. But for other people i see how their mood and demeanor changes after someone close to them dies, so i can say that it directly and indirectly affects people.

Yes R'royna I see what your saying my mom is the same way. Thats why she never lets me go to big parties even if she knows the people because more than half of the time someone always gets hurt, so she trys to avoid these things. Also, after my cousin was killed she became really paranoid, by now it has calmed down some but she is still really cautious. So yea I can see how death can trickle down and effect others who may not be the ones being directly affected by such an event.
