Many of our celebrities get in trouble with the law alittle too frequently for them to still be allowed in the streets. The rapper "T.I." Clifford Harris was recently convicted of illegal gun charges, he was only given 1 year and a day of jail time and 1000 community service hours. There are countless cases of men who were convicted of gun charges and have spent numerous years in jail, but because of the fame and money they are punished lightly. Singer Chris Brown has been charged with assault against his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Who knows whats even going on with those charges? And now he's just out making music and living life as if nothing
happened. Celebrity wildchilds Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton have been arrested countless times for a vast number of reasons and yet they are still out roaming the streets. It just doesn't seem very fair to all the average Joes and Janes who deserve as many chances as the celebrities do. Now its your turn, do you think fame and money make it ok to be exempt from rules and regulations?

Is It Fair That With Fame and Money Comes Exemption From the Law?

i think it is not fair either, wht i think is that no matter how much money you have or how famus you are all people sholud be traited the same even the president. like T.I i like hime in all but he should spend the same amount of years in jail as the rest of us.
yes i think that if your famous then you will get punished more lightly then someone who is not. While it may not be fair, thats just the way it is. Once in a while some people may be made examples of but not too often. Take Martha Stewart for example, she was made an example of and she is a geniunely good person, who pretty much had a clean record. But T.I. had been in jail twice before and he just got a year this time.
No it’s definitely not fair that just because you have all the money, fame, and fortune in the world that you can skip out on paying consequences for a crime that you have committed or just pay half of the consequences instead of the whole deal that a regular person would have to do!! All of the celebrities mentioned plus more all should have done more time and not be out on the streets doing whatever they want without thinking it is no consequences behind it. Especially the dangerous crimes that deserve many, many years of jail time and not just a little court hearing and suspension from advertising companies but the whole thing. For example Chris Brown didn’t get no jail time for abusing Rihanna he just got 180 days of labor service, did a public apology, and went back to working on his music. If that a person like us, we would have been in jail for some time on assault charges and not guaranteed that 180 days that Chris Brown had got.
I dont think its fair that people who have fame and money should be exempt from the law. But if you had fame and money and you could beat the charges wouldnt you? Yes there are some good people in the world who might say that they would take the responsibility and suffer the consequences from their actions but most people wouldnt, they would take exemption from the law if they had the money and fame to help them along.
I dont think its fair but at the same time i dont really believe that its only the case for famous people.Jail time varies from person to person not based on how mch money they have but maybe their past, judges, and states. Like in Rochester Tyquan Rivera was given 10 years in prison for shooting one man (who didnt die) but was a police officer. But there has been several cases in Rochester were people were convicted of KILLING more than one person and given less time then Tyquan.
I think because of the simple fact that these are famous names they do get a break and as much as they tell you how "they get the same treatment that anyone else would get" thats complete bull...obviously. It's not fair but no one is really saying anything about it. It shouldn't matter how much money you have, albums you sold, videos you made if ya do the crime you do the time.
No its not fair. But if it was any of us we wouldnt mind getting off lightly. I really dont know what to say. i guess i dont really care for the troubles and bails of celebrities. as long as im intertained with their news and their music i can careless what happens to them.
Personally i feel as though Celebrities should be held to a higher standard than average people because they are in the public eye all the time. They should be punished more severely if anything. Even though that is still not necessarily fair because they are still being treated differently because of their fame or money. Famous, Rich people are role models to many and should atleast be a good positive example. In many cases their lives and even breaking the law is glamorized. When Lil' Kim was sent to jail for a treason, lying on the stand. The sale of "Stop Snitching" shirts made her a sort of urban hero. To this day the "Stop Snitching" campaign is still in effect though a counter campaign to snitch has been started.
I honestly think that its unfair from our points of view..basically everyone who commented this is right the amount of money or fame someone has shouldn't reduce the consequence time or standards due to a violation. Especially when they are a huge impact of the violence in the society now as it is...they should actually recieve more time than average people not even average im going to say more time than everyone else...only because those thats celebrities and are famous influence the world and many look up to them and may want to be just like them..but then again the government may give them less time so they can get their consequence and bounce back and let the world know that what they did was wrong and it should end...nobody knows y they recieve less time so nobody should really judge.
I think that if you have taken the resonsibility of being in the public eye and you have the world lookin at you at all times, then as a celebrity you should hold yourself at a exemplatary level, so you should be doing the right things at all times. But if it comes to that point where you do get in trouble, fame and money should not be a factor because i think of it as what would've happened years before they became famous and no one knew their names...what ever they would've done they probably would've gotten the maximum charge, topped with whatever they could add(i.e community service) but speaking realistically, yes people do get leniency for being famous and having money. Is it right..no, but that's the way it is.
In my opinion no it is not okay for celebrities to be exempted from the average punishments of committing a crime. If not, they should be punished more severely because celebrities set examples for millions of people and fans. So they should be more attentive to their actions and their consequences. I respect T.I for trying to make a difference by creating his show but did he just simply do it to maintain his image. As for Rihanna and Chris Brown they are the perfect example of why people should be punished for their crimes famous or not. So many women face abuse from their women and his conviction just discourages them from telling even more so because they know its not hard to get away with abuse. Rihanna is just stupidly blinded by love. However someone whose music I love but his whole image is just the worst is lil wayne. He portrays the worst image ever and doesn’t even care. He has been convicted many times does all types of things, gets away with it and still has an astonishing effect on the people. Khadija makes a good point in saying that there are exceptions but it s very rare. She also says that’s just the way it is. Shatte makes a good point as well about it depends on the victim and the convicted. Well should we just accept the fact of how corrupt the justice system is or should we fight against the corruption? I also agree with Onwaniqua that if the tables were turned I wouldn’t care about the exemption but that still doesn’t make it right.
